Painful Nursing and Tongue Tie

Painful Nursing and Tongue Tie

I am a first time mom and from day 1 my baby did not latch well. I was determined to breastfeed and so did everything to express breastmilk and feed. After a number of visits to different lactation consultants we finally succeeded in latching my baby but I was always in pain during nursing. Finally on meeting Dr. Manisha Gogri were we able to detect a posterior tongue tie in my son who was then 2 month old. She heard me out and after close assessment of our feeding position and his oral cavity she suggested we go ahead with a tongue tie release. I was made aware (i also did my homework and spoke to fellow mommies who had a similar problem) that unlike anterior tongue ties, posterior tongue tie release will not have an immediate dramatic effect but nevertheless will help if followed by stretching exercises. We went ahead with the procedure which as a very tiny cut with a laser on the dental chair and it hardly took 5 minutes. My baby cried on that day even after we came home but settled after a few hours. After the procedure we did do the stretching exercises as suggested by Dr. Manisha and although immediately there was no result, slowly and steadily my baby started feeding well and even my pain reduced. It took us about a month to get there but now every position of nursing seems comfortable. Thank you Dr. Manisha for all the support.
